Their world is on the other side of the mirror

    Seven years ago, Alex got killed during a mission in Iraq. Well, I’m not so sure anymore about that, even though he died in my arms. New Intel indicates his death was actually staged by Elite, which means that we’ll be working together again real soon. Wouldn’t that be something…me, Alex, and Marius together in the same room. My skin crawls only at the thought of it. I don’t love Alex…I never did. What we had between us was madness born from the desperation and hopelessness of our lives. But I do love Marius. Scratch that. I’m in love with Marius. Everything I know now about love, the kind that makes your heart blossom like a rose, I’ve learned from him. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, terrified that someday, somehow, I’ll lose him too. Despite all the death around us, we decided to be together, even if our togetherness has razor edges to it. Every time the phone rings and we’re called back to our real identities, one of us might not survive. But whatever happens tomorrow, we’re at least given the present, at least achieve something truly remarkable: the small miracle of falling asleep in each other’s arms.

The story is addictive...the characters become real. They’re here. They exist. And so does Elite.
